The backup system provides 99.99% protection when the main sump pump is out of service.
Battery powered sump pump installation
Instructions
- Lay out the various components of the backup sump pump system. Compare the items with the installation instructions to make certain all parts are present and identified. After the successful comparison , transport the items to the existing main sump pump for installation.
- For your safety, Before beginning the installation , turn off the circuit breaker to the main sump pump to disable the power.
- Adjust the pump bracket to fit into your sump pit so the sump pump battery backup is just above the main pump inside the pit . Use the screwdriver and pliers to adjust the bracket .The opposite end of the bracket should lay flat on the basement floor. When the battery and battery box are placed atop this portion of the bracket it acts as a counter weight to support the sump pump below. This eliminates the need for anchor holes to be drilled in the basement floor.
- Lay the backup sump pump and battery box in a suitable position on the bracket.
- Read and follow the instructions for the backup system you have purchased to connect all wiring from the new sump pump to the battery.
- Be sure : no excess wiring hangs into the sump pit . It could become twisted together with the main sump pump or powered battery pump.
- Check the bracket and backup pump to make sure both pumps operate smoothly without interfering with one another.
- Connect and fit the discharge hose to the new backup sump pump.
- Extend the discharge hose up and out of the sump pit to a position along the drain pipe above the existing check valve. Mark the location which you have determined on the discharge pipe , Use the hack saw to cut into the drain pipe ,Clean the edges of the pipe and carefully install the tee check valve.
- When you finished the installation, the drain line should enter the tee check valve from the bottom and exiting from the top.
- Use PVC cement for the watertight seal. Connect the discharge hose to the tee check valve.
- Check all backup system connections, fittings, electrical connections and the wire length inside the sump pit.
- Connect the battery terminals to the battery charger, follow the instructions for the model you purchased and mount the charger in a dry place and plug it into an outlet.
- For safety, The outlet should be a GFCI (ground fault circuit interruption) device .This offers better protection against electrical shocks and fires.
- Turn on the circuit breaker to supply electricity. Then, allow the battery to charge. When the battery is sufficiently charged you should conduct a test of the complete system including the main sump pump and the backup one to be sure all elements are working properly.
