For sump pumps, there are some notes you should know :

Do's and Don'ts

  1. Read the installation material of the sump pump.
  2. Check the sump pump against any visible damage caused by shipping.
  3. Contact the dealer if there is any damage.
  4. Make sure that the sump pump liner “pit” is large enough to allow proper clearance for the pumps float switch.
  1. For future use, keep all warranty information, installation instructions, and receipts.
  2. Size the submersible pump to the proper capacity of the home.
  3. In a two-submersible pump system, each sump pump should be sized to meet the homes pumping requirements.
  4. Verify that the sewage pit is gas tight and well vented to prevent odors.
  5. At the discharge pipe , install a check valve and a union.
  6. Don’t carry the sump pump by its power cord.
  1. Don’t ever splice or cut the power cord.
  2. Always disconnect the sump Pump From Power Source Before handling.
  3. Don’t use a discharge pipe smaller than the submersible pump discharge size.
  4. Avoid pouring chemicals into the sump pump system such as acid’s, floor wax, paints, or any degreasing chemicals. Common household soaps and detergents are acceptable.
  1. Avoid flushing any items that are not biodegradable such as paper towels, feminine hygiene products, or other items that could jam the pump impeller.
  2. Review all applicable local and national codes and verify that the installation conforms to each of them.
  3. For the two submersible pump system, an alarm must be installed where an installation may become overloaded or primary sump pump failure would result in property damage.
  4. Consult manufacturer for clarifications or questions.
  5. Drill a 3/16" weep hole between the check valve and the sump pump housing.
