Have a professional sump sump installation. Many of us avoid to have a sump pump due to the installation cost. Here the easy installation guide to safe your money.
(1) – Location of the sump pump liner/pit :
The sump pump pit –also called tank or liner- should be at the lowest point of your basement so that the water naturally drains to it.
(2) – Location of the sump pump :
The sump pump should be close to a ground circuit interrupter output.Inside the sump pit ,the sump pump should be located at least 20 Cm “8 inches”away from the outside wall.
(3) – The outlet pipe:
(4) – The liner/sump pit:
(5) – The hole:
The dig hole at least 7.6 Cm “ 3 inches” wider than the sump pump liner and about 15.2 Cm “6 inches” deeper. Dig to the depth recommended by the sump pump manufacture. The jackhammer is the easiest solution for digging through concrete.Don’t forget to use goggle, dust mask, heavy gloves and ear protectors for your personal protection.Level the depth.Put the liner into the hole. Fill the around space outside the liner with coarse gravel.Keep about 6 inches under the basement level free from the gravel and fill it with concrete. Let the concrete take its time for good finishing.Put about 15 Cm of the gravel in the bottom of the liner.
(6) – The sump pump:
(7) – The discharge pipe:
Drill a hole in the rim joist.Cut 1 foot of PVC drain pipe and install it into the hole. Measure and cut the required pieces of PVC pipe to form the discharge pipe from the sump pump to the pipe in the rim joist. Dry fit all the pieces and make sure they are right. Cement them together. Connect the discharge pipe to the piece in the rim joist by fitting a piece and run it to the discharge area. Cement the pipe in place. The discharge line should have a small vent hole out the water but drains into the liner .The vent prevents the air lock in the lower part of the sump pump.
(8) – Finish supporting the pipes:
Caulking around the hole in the rim header. Support the discharge pipe by attaching it to the wall or joist.
